The Coorong is a major breeding place for Fairy Terns.

The lack of water flow into the Coorong from the Murray River has resulted in a significant decline in the population.

Recent flooding has caused the Coorong to fill again, providing food supplies near the Fairy Terns' breeding sites so, hopefully, the birds will build up in numbers again.
